The Ministry of Health has overall responsibility for ensuring that quality, appropriate, cost-effective and timely health services are available to all British Columbians. Within the Ministry of Health, the Population and Public Health Division’s goals focus on improving people’s overall health and well-being by promoting health; preventing disease, disability, and injury; protecting them from harm; and assisting them to acquire the self-care and self-management skills they need. The intent of these actions is to promote a healthier population, and reduce current and future demands on the health care system.
The Population and Public Health Division provides stewardship for population and public health in the areas of women’s, children and youth health; health protection; healthy living; chronic disease and injury prevention; communicable disease prevention and control, prevention of problematic substance use, and infection control.
The Public Health, Prevention and Planning Branch provides leadership, policy direction, monitoring and reporting on key public health priorities, including communicable disease; infection prevention and control; women’s, maternal and early childhood health; and public health planning. The Branch works with government, health system and community partners to develop policy and provide strategic direction for program planning, implementation and evaluation.
The Public Health, Prevention and Planning Branch provides expert advice and works closely with and support other branches, divisions, ministries, health system governance bodies, health professional organizations, and external health system partners to support the generation and dissemination of new knowledge that supports the achievement of improved health outcomes for British Columbians.
As a member of the Communicable Disease team, the Director of Infection Prevention and Control is an integral part of the Ministry’s COVID- 19 response efforts and is responsible for leading the development of health system policy and guidance.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- Master’s degree in Business or Public Administration, or Health Sciences, Social Sciences or a related field and a minimum of 2 years related experience OR
- Undergraduate degree in Business or Public Administration, or Health Sciences, Social Sciences or a related field and a minimum of 4 years related experience OR
- Diploma in Business or Public Administration, or Health Sciences, Social Sciences or a related field and a minimum of 6 years related experience OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Related experience must include:
- A minimum of 5 years experience supervising staff and leading staff teams.
- Experience leading complex projects involving multiple stakeholder groups.
- Experience developing strategic policy, including analysis, implementation and evaluation.
- Experience in project management.
- Experience preparing reports and providing advice to senior decision makers on a broad range of policy.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Experience in contract management, including negotiating funding agreements and evaluating deliverables.
- Experience in public health.
